Kelsey is a previous Junior Olympic Gymnast from her youth. She has also been a swimmer, diver, and body builder. Kelsey has been in the world of sports since she can remember. A career ending injury from gymnastics led her to pursue a path towards sport psychology. Kelsey obtained her MA in 2020 for Sport and Performance Psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Coach (CMPC).
Kelsey serves as a Mental Performance Coach at her newly created business 'Unchained Mental Performance Coaching.' Unchained came into existence through her love of sport, help from a previous sport psychology coach and her faith in God. The name means "to set free" which is the core of her business. Kelsey wants to help athletes and injured athletes of any level obtain true freedom from mental blocks, challenges, and learn how to effectively navigate life through mental skills. These mental skills are here to open a new door of identity in each athlete that seeks to answer the question: "Who am I beyond athletics?" Here, Kelsey strives to empower athletes and injured athletes about boosting confidence in their arena and return to sport post injury. Other topics of importance are boosting motivation, career transitions & career-ending injury next steps, plus more. If you've resonated with any of this, reach out and let's start talking about how I can best serve you and help your athletic career today!
We're here to help you reach deeper levels of freedom in your athletic and non-athletic identity.
Myth #1: "Mental training is only for athletes with problems."
Fact: 85% of elite athletes use mental skills training. The best performers use psychology as a competitive advantage, not just as a fix for issues.
Myth #2: "Visualization is just daydreaming."
Fact: Proper visualization activates the same neural pathways as physical practice and has been shown to improve performance by up to 23% when combined with physical training.
Myth #3: "You need to be 'mentally tough' to push through pain."
Fact: True mental toughness includes knowing when to rest and recover. Strategic recovery improves performance and prevents burnout.
Myth #4: "Nerves hurt performance."
Fact: Every performer has their own optimal zone of functioning when it comes to somatic and emotional feelings. If channeled in the right way, nerves can be utilized to improve performance.
Myth #5: "Sport psychology is only about positive thinking."
Fact: Effective mental training includes realistic assessment, strategic planning, and specific skill development—not just positive affirmations.
